Thanks Seth for the always thought provoking ideas. When I can get past the banking and school email onslaught (and the Democratic party fundraising) Routine Chaos always gets me thinking more deeply than my job has time for. Related to the AI quality vs. quantity conundrum, as my teams embrace AI tools, the quality of poor performers work has shot up - to solid government grade jargon. Those who labored over routine data collection and reporting are empowered to produce faster and better quality information output by the bucketload. But they are not yet empowered to slow down, specialize, rethink how or why we are collecting and reporting, and develop systems that achieve our desired outcomes without so much muchness yet. My already out of control inbox and bursting at the seams information sharing platforms are at the limits of my scattered brain.

Sigh. Yeah. In the same way that the adoption of email led to the advent of spam, LLMs make it so easy to produce garbage that doesn’t immediately look like garbage (they’re so good at empty corporate speak, which probably says something uncomfortable about us). We don’t yet have the equivalent of the spam filter, and I’m always hesitant to say that the solution to technology-spawned problems is more technology. How do your people respond to your feedback on the quality of what they’re showing you?
